At Least I’m Rich is a competitive card game, in which players compete head-to-head as corporate leads, with one all-encompassing, uber-critical, deeply meaningful goal: make as much money as possible. But as it turns out, the most lucrative tactics are not very kind to the environment. Players play cards each round, such as constructing factories or superstores. Each structure has a Profit (how much money it scores the player), a Yield Time (how many turns must pass before the card activates again), and an Impact (how much damage the card does to the environment). Players can also play Action Cards for special effects, such as reducing their impact or bribing an OSHA officer.
Players also have Secret Roles that contain a Bonus Motive that, if completed, reward huge bonus points at the end of the game. (e.g. the Vegan Union role might reward bonus points if the player made it through the whole game without playing a card of the “Pasture” type).
At the end of [X] rounds, the game ends! After bonuses, the player with the most money wins. BUT if the environment's health reaches 0 at any point, the player who dealt the least damage wins instead. This is especially tricky, given the players do not know how much health the environment starts with!
Each player starts with 2 Structure cards, 2 Action cards, and one Secret Role Card. One player is assigned the “priority” token, which is used to determine the order for certain events. The Structure Deck and the action deck are each set in the middle of the board, with one card placed next to it, face up. (see right for example)
The game takes place over [X] turns, or fiscal quarters, representing opportunities for financial growth. Each round is completed through the following phases.
| Draw Phase | During the draw phase, players gain new cards from the deck. Starting with the player with the “priority” token and continuing clockwise, players may either draw from the action deck or the structure deck. Players may instead choose to take the face-up card, replacing it with a new card from the top of the deck. |
|---|---|
| Action Phase | In this phase, players each select a card from their hand to play, in secret. Starting with the player with the priority token. |
| Yield Phase | Any card that has reached its Yield Time (X rounds have passed since its last yield) ****activates, rewarding the player with money, but dealing damage to the environment at the same time. For Purposes of the PAPER PROTOTYPE, we recommend turning a card 90 degrees clockwise each time it enters the Yield Phase. For example, if a card has a yield time of 2, the first time it enters the yield phase, turn it 90 degrees clockwise. The next time, activate it's yield effects and turn it back to its original position. Action cards activate their ability in the yield phase as well. These all activate instantly and before structures yield, in order of priority. |
| Clean and Pass | Any “usable once only” cards are discarded. The “priority” token is passed to the next player. |
